The Reichstag

Book early

Lucky enough to have just spent the weekend in Berlin and straight up its a great city. Masses of history, lots to see and a real eclectic mix of bars and restaurants.

We stayed fairly central, near the Zoo metro line and at one end of the Tiergarten park. The metro and bus system is great and will get you around all the sites, or just walk. Its a compact city and you see so much more walking amongst it.

A few highlights. Sunday flea markets at Boxhagener Platz, the East Side Gallery for the art of the wall. The top floor of the Park Inn, a much cheaper way to get a skyline view of the city and then the Reichstag government buildings. Check online well in advance of you trip and book the 90 minute tour, its free and very interesting.

The glass dome of the Reichstag has mirrors to reflect light into the chamber below.

The majority of the building was destroyed in the war, although a few bits of the old remain. Here inscriptions in charcoal in the walls from allied soldiers after they entered the building.
